Freespire+Dialup=Nightmare...need help..
ok I am an absolute total Linux n00b... I know stuff about computers but not linux I have installed Freespire on a partition on my Hdd everything went well... now I have a CXt HSF modem when I first Set up the Kpp feature of my modem it detected it said modem ready dialed my access number and tried to connect.. of course since Im using a generic version of aol it wouldn't connect (I expected that and figured I'd use the AOL dialer...) Now I tried the AOL dialer once I had my modem configured... and all I get is "Penggy died!" immediately.. so I tried kpp again and now it says "this modem is not responding" or "modem busy".... I had read other posts similar problems but none were quite the same...also I might add I had heard maybe it was due to having the wrong modem driver so I went to driverguide and got myself a linux driver that supports my modem.. but after placing on the jump drive booting to the linux partition and finding that the installation instructions were in french... and even when I went through the bother of booting back to my xp partition and getting them in english.. I still have no clue how to do it..I have no knowledge of how to use the konsole or if I'd even need to I tried my best and was unable to install the file I managed to get the directory of where i extracted to the drivers up in the konsole then ran the make install or whatever (not even sure) and got an error so if anyone can help me in the most n00b friendly way and basic english as if your talking to someone whos really really stupid i'd really appreciate it and btw sorry for the long post but I thought i'd try to give as much info as possible on the situation in my first post to try to avoid confusion thanks, LinuxLovinNoob
PS sorry if I posted this in the wrong place and also I know your all thinking why dont you forget about dial up and get Broadband, but its not available now and im sorta stuck with the ISP i have now and I really hate it but at least if i can use linux (which i've always wanted to try before and this is the first time) i wont need the stupid bloatware that goes with the isp

Now... My question is in the field where i type my user name do I just simply put my username and nothing else? or is there a specific format that im not following thats making me get booted at the end? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks again everyone hope someone can give me a clue...
