I think you may have dismissed Ubuntu too quickly. While Ubuntu its self may be too much for your machine, I think Xubuntu which uses the XFCE desktop would be the best choice. Most modern Linux Distros are aimed more towards newer, higher spec PC's than you have. The Ubuntu range can run on lower spec machines and the apt package system is great.

    Welcome to the forums!

The truth of the matter is, nobody here can tell you which distro is the "best" for you.

You'll need to try each distro that you are interested in and then decide for yourself. Take a look at the link in my signature for help in determining which distros to try.

Well you have a list of four there, and of them two (DSL and Puppy) would be really quick to try out. They're all free to download and get going though, so why not try them all? Ubuntu is good too, maybe you could also give that a blast?

I've tried Puppy, kind of nice.

Trying to get VectorLinux installed as it seems the best choice for me, but it's not working for some reason. I made another thread (for the install problems) but everyone's ignoring it.

Patience, padawan. Sometimes it takes a couple of days to get a response. It helps when you're as descriptive of your problem and the steps you've taken so far as possible.
