Help with screen resolution and sound. PLEASE...!!!
Hey everyone,
I just installed linux today and I'm really new at it. I was wondering for Kubuntu, how do i change my screen resolution from 800x600 to 1400x900. I have a HannsG Hw191D 19" widescreen monitor if that helps. Also, I have looked at forums for help, however they're really confusing to read especially since i'm so new to this. Please help explain anything, and how I can change this.
A second problem that I have is that I am unable to install my Creative Soundblaster Audigy Soundcard and etc. I don't get any sound on my computer. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Again, thanks so much if you could help. I really need it.

About sound card:
-Do you have ALSA installed?
About resolution:
you should edit your xorg.conf file (by adding new resolutions in screen selection)

I understand that I need alsa for my sound card and configure my xorg.conf file. However how do I do either of those? I'm so confused.
What do i need to type in to reconfigure my xorg file. And what should i change.
Thanks so much for the help.

Just to start with the absolute basics; have you been into system settings, and tried adjusting the resolution/configuring the monitor, and enabling the sound system from there?
If you have, then post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf here so we can have a look see.

hi imanooblar !!
Welcome to the LinuxForums !!
check your Monitor's Manual and note down supported HorizSync, VertiRefresh rates and Resolutions.

CasperIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
