    Apt Troubles

    I recently tried installing xbasic using alien. I think that I got it to install, however, now whenever I try to use apt, I get an error that says

    root@Jons-Laptop:/usr/xb/bin# apt-get remove xbasic
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
    E: The package xbasic needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

    By the way, if it helps, I have a recently installed Ubuntu system (Just put it on yesterday) with a Compaq Presario v5305wm. Is this a fairly common problem? Trying to install something and then having Apt screw up to the point of no return? Seems like a fairly major bug to me...
