What distribution of Linux do you have? Most of the LiveCDs have some sort of program you can run to install it onto your harddrive (thus removing the need to constantly boot from the CD), but they're all slightly different.

it looks like its Mandriva i see there is a Live install on there is that what i use?
ok i figured that part out but first off its not letting me create a partion so i can put it on my laptop
- 02-05-2007 #4Do you already have another OS like windows installed? If so and assuming it is using the entire drive partition you will need to resize that partition.

i messed my windows up so i desided just to reformat the hard drive and use 20 gigs for windows and 20 gigs for linux once i get the partions up ill need help on learning stuff and getting my internet to work on Linux
- 02-05-2007 #6Well, that does simplify things. Leave the Linux partition unformatted and the installer should give you the option to "install using free space". That simplifies the whole partitioning process by letting Linux do it for you.

Do i have to create a Swap? I dont got my window disk here so i gotta wait until i get it i was going to setup my linux server first and then once i get my windows cd install it after so do i gotta install a Swap?
For some reason when i try doing a hard drive which i desided to try out and get a feel for it. I get to where its Installing or whatever and it freezes up on me is this a problem somewhere in the software? is there a 1 disk linux that i can download the iso and burn it on a disk?
- 02-05-2007 #8You should intall windows first. I'll repeat my suggestion about researching and in this case 'dual booting' in particular.

Im thinkin of just installing linux fully on the hard drive and nothing else so i dont have to go throught the trouble but it keeps freezing up on me just wondering if someone might have a messenger that can help me through messenger it would be a faster process
- 02-05-2007 #10Swap is necessary for Linux, you're going to need it
