    help installing nvidia driver

im running an Athlon 64x2 4400+ with an EVGA 7900GT on Ubuntu 6.10 i686. I've been trying to install the latest nvidia drivers but after I install them the graphics card stops working all together and I get no signal at all to my monitor. Currently im using the default nv drivers that came with the distro.

I've been trying to install the IA32 driver, should I be using a different one for my configuration or am I just doing something wrong?

I have an Nvidia video card. I found the script "Envy" very good. It checks which video card exists, downloads and installs the correct drivers for Nvidia or ATI. Read about it at http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html
