Linux or Windows (Web Developement)
Hello there all you Linux users.
I am a web designer, i practically do all the work when creating a website, that is: Doing the design in Photoshop CS2 then write the code with Dreamweaver MX (PHP + CSS) and sometime i use flash MX to do a banner.
Currently i used windows XP (trying out windows vista and Linux atm), I have ALLOT of files on my computer so when i open a folder my computer freezes up for a short time (most of the time).
i have tried Linux openSUSE and it worked excellent with all my files, but the question is: Are there software which I can use when making websites.. I have heard that you can install the programs i have mentioner above, with the help of another program called Wine! but is that any good ? I have just installed windows Vista, but it just feels the same as windows XP. All answers are appreciated.

Hi maloki, I use the GIMP for graphics work, and Quanta for web designing, although there's also Bluefish and NVU. For flash there's Flash4Linux.

When I'm editing my websites, I prefer to use either vim, kate or gedit. Simple text editors rule when you're doing web pages. All my graphics are done with Gimp.

I use Quanta for my website. It's a great editor for PHP and CSS in addition to standard HTML. The upload management features are very nice. You can easily upload individual files or have Quanta scan an entire directory and upload only those files that have been modified.
I don't do any Flash creation myself, but there are a number of options. Some are listed here. Most of them should work for you if you are just doing Flash banners.
If you decide to use Wine to run a Windows app then I suggest checking out the application database on their website to see which versions other users have already tried.
