    thanks thriller

    actually , i need a basic software to keep track of how much data is sent and downloaded during my broadband usage... jus like the small manager in windows which pops when we click the computer button in the task bar.. got it?

    You could have a look at iftop. This runs in a terminal and gives a live display of the connections on whatever interface you specify. As well as that, it gives running totals of the amount of data received, transmitted, and the combined total.

    Ethereal might be suitable for you as well, but is much more advanced.

    Ethereal recently changed their name to Wireshark. I like Ethereal better but what are you gonna do?

    If I recall correctly don't think the developer's company would let him keep the Ethereal name when he left.

    A simple program like Bandwidth Monitor NG is also an option.

    HTB-Tools is a program that goes a step further and allows you to allocate and manage bandwidth.

    Thank you guys... Ethereal alies Wireshark Prob?!?!?!

    I downloaded iftop using yum and installed it.... Had that software had a GUI, it would have made a good match to track the date sent and recieved side by side surfing... Neway I downloaded Eethereal alies Wireshark.. And I installed it successfully in my machine..But when I give ethereal or Wireshark in my terminal , it fails to start..What may be the prob?
