If you are running on an intel on board graphics chip newer than the 855 series then you should be able to. What happens when you run beryl-manager in a terminal? Can you post back the messages you get? Also what window decorator are you using? Have you installed Emerald?

Red face Problem with emerald-Transparent desktop

When I run emerald from terminal,my screen resolution changes and my system virtually hangs and forces me to reboot.
Same in the case of beryl-manager ,when i run it from terminal , the screen resolution changes, linux logs off and then the boot-screen appears asking for user-name and password.

    What may be the problem?

**Can someone suggest a software which can make my desktop transparent and nice.

Okay this time try to log in and don't start beryl-manager, instead open a terminal like konsole or gnome-terminal and run
    Code:
    beryl --replace
and post back the results. What distro are you using? Do you know if you are using XGL or AIGLX?

    Smile Enabling Beryl

If I'm not mistaken, after installing Beryl, it doesnt automatically switch Window Managers.. Try right clicking on the emerald in your system tray, and select Window Manager, change it to Beryl... You may also want to put a check mark on Launch Fall-Back window manager if beryl crashes.. Thats also found by right clicking on the Emerald in your system tray..
