USB phone driver
Hi folks.
For a few weeks I have strongly considered making the switch to Linux. Before doing so I want to make sure i'll be able to do everything I can currently do in windows XP. I DO NOT want to dual boot. I hate the idea of having to restart my pc just to carry out a certain task.
After many google searches it seems that 90% of what I do in XP can be acomplished in linux, albeit with a little extra effort. A few things are uncertain, for example my wireless USB adapter (Belkin F5D9050) isnt listed as being supported by ndiswrapper but its very similar to one that is.
The only thing that is preventing me from making the switch is my skype phone, a Philips VOIP3211S/05. Nothing has turned up that even remotely points towards this device being able to run in linux. And as I said, I dont want to have to dual-boot to windows in order to make a phone call.
I'm hoping that someone here can suggest a workaround of some sort. I have looked into vmware and running a virtual XP pc just for this purpose, however I dont know much about this kinda thing to know if it'll work or not.
Any suggestions?

Well screw this. I'll just put up with the constant threat of malware and system instability and stick with windows. I've always heard that one of the best things about linux is the community. Yet not one person has even acknowledged my question, let alone helped me out with even the slightest of suggestions.

You should strive for more patience. If a member should know the answer to the question he/she will, in all probability, answer it. Otherwise, they probably won't.
In the interim, good luck with whatever OS you should decide to use.

Refer to Sticky at top of Forum
Specifically the Linux is Not Windows Link.
You didn't and probably won't pay for the software so your complaining after one day of posting is completely unwarranted, furthermore, the Linux community needs pleasant people not impatient, fly off the handle types, so please calm down.

I currently use FC6 and run Skype and Ekiga for my phone. The telephone is an Xact usb phone purchased at walmart. It is automatically detected as a usb phone by udev. While it works perfectly in either for phone conversations the keypad and display do not function. This is because as of yet drivers have not been produced specifically for linux distros.
I say dont lose heart switch to nix and enjoy...there is nothing that windoze does that nix cant do!
