    Help retrieving Linux files!!!

I have RedHat 2.4.20 and WinNT on my home computer. (university network, ethernet connection).
Recently the net connection was no longer working from Linux and now it looks like the entire OS has crashed (I'm able to login as user or root but after that nothing more appears).

My immediate goal is to retrieve some important files that I have under Linux.

I have downloaded and installed Ltools and it seems to be working. Can get a file say from /etc/.

But /home/user/ is not seen and that's where the files that I'm trying to retrieve are.

    Any thoughts?? TIA.

probably use a live distro like knoppix to do what you are trying to do. i have moved stuff from slax to my desktop PC after i had problems mounting my cdrom. it came in handy. i think knoppix has some handy tools for recovery that you might want to check out.
