my dear EMBOSSers,

i come here to ask for your help, once again... . i've been trying out how to configure emboss and ncbi blast on my computer since the administrator of the server i was using won't install the database i'm interested on. i used to sign in using the terminal (i'm using an ibook), i'd install mandriva or ubuntu on this computer but i'd have to delete all my hard drive and then reinstall which is a pain in the butt. i figured out how to install emboss by using fink and also installing ncbi blast was no problem. however i can't add the database i want on emboss and i don't find the way to add the database for ncbi blast with formatdb, it keeps showing the next error:

[NULL_Caption] FATAL ERROR: Database base name must be provided with multiple input files

the line i put in is like this:

/Users/ncbi\ blast/bin/formatdb -t azms -i /Users/ncbi\ blast/databases/zmg_fasta.5.0ALL_061305

so i don't understand why it says the database name must be provided if i'm including the database name and the source.

something extra i'd like to know is how to set the path for the commands there are in the ~/ncbi/bin folder. that was not a problem with the emboss commands, i can use them from anywhere on the terminal.
