Why not just install SMART using YAST since SMART is available in the openSUSE software repositories?

Get the smart Guru package from rpm.pbone.net
It comes with all the repositories already defined - much easier to configure than the YaST package.

    Install it.
    Then run as root:
    #smart update
Select the repositories you want to add. ( I take everything except latest kde )
After the repositories are updated, type:
    #smart install smart-gui
    if you want the GUI
