Good 'newbie' reading material
Have tried numerous live CD's recently and been very impressed with how things have come on over the years since the old UNIX days (didn't dabble much with the OS then but did write some Foxbase apps - ahh, those were the days) and thought I'd have another crack at dumping Windoze. However, rather than bore you with 'newbie' type questions, can anybody recommend a good 'starter' book which covers the basics to bring me up to speed. I've trawled around and Amazon, for example, has loads of stuff but experience has taught me that a recommendation is usually worth far more than publicity blurb. Any help would be most appreciated.

Welcome to the forums, ronnie6

The first link is a good resource for learning commands. The second and third links are good online books you can read for free:

Don't hesitate to start a new thread if you should have other questions.

There's loads of info available out there. Depends what your looking for. I uploaded a Linux document onto rapidshare, here's the link (I don't know where I found it but it gives a complete overview of Linux)
