You're going to have to provide us with a lot more information before we can help you. Here are some things that we need:

    1. What distribution of Linux did your friend install on it? (Ask them) LILO is a bootloader program for Linux, not the name of a specific type of Linux.
    2. What kind of router box is it? What are the hardware specs?
    3. All devices that have any kind of network hardware have a MAC address. It is a hard-wired unique number used for identification purposes. What is the specific error you are getting when you boot it up?

    Help

dont know what linux it is I know its not gui

When the power goes out and I start the box up again Box(gateway)
I had to log in as root and put in my password. Then type this" echo 1>/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward" Then this "iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE" but it wont even let me login there is no error message. it says Hostname lookup failed then it says mac address then it gives me the mac Sorry to be a big pain but thats all I know.
