pcmcia hangs when shutting down!
Hi guys!
you have been of great help in the past, and really enjoy reading the posts
in these forums....learned a lot.
I'm having one last problem I am trying sus out on my laptop. I have RH 7.3 newly installed (p133 Toshiba) and it hangs at
stopping pcmcia
causing me to physically shut off the notebook .Anybody had or heard of this problem, and better yet have an idea how to correct it?
maybe a kernel bug 2.4.18-3?
Thanks again!

try stopping it at the command line with "service pcmcia stop" or "/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia stop". See what happens, see if it actually works.

First off, I doubt it is a kernel bug, I wonder where it is hanging. Can you paste the script into a post (prefereably into a code block for easy reading). Also, try to run `strace /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia stop` see if that gives you any more information.

Well, first off, how much does it hang if you run service pcmcia stop? Can you still switch consoles and so? If you type anything, does it show on the screen?
What happens if you try to do it manually, ie. first kill the cardmgr process, then unloading the related modules one by one?

wow, that sounds harsh. Is there a kernel update for you? If not, try using pcmcia-cs from sourceforge, and turning it off in the kernel, that is another option. I don't know how to do this, but I think http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/ might have more information on that. This is just a guess though. I haven't configured pcmcia on any computer yet (no laptops in my linux history, sorry)
