Trying to save an old laptop

My father has a very old laptop. Toshiba satellite 1715. 600mhz 64 mb ram and 6 gb hdd. He is currently running win 2k on there. It is very slow. Does anyone know a good linux os that i can run on there? Some of the linux i saw requires higher specs than the one we have right now.

Well Xubuntu can run on a system with 64MB of ram, I have read but they recommend 128MB. So no guarantees

Here is the download you want the PC (Intel x86) alternate install CD, make sure its not the Desktop CD (which is at the top of the page).

P.S. Wow 64MB of ram thats not alot even for that old a laptop my Compaq Armada M700 has 512MB (it's max out) but I think the standard was 256MB. I have new laptop no though. Just my thoughts.

there are a lot of lightweight Linux Distros that will run pretty fine on those specs. check here.
