Hi-newbie, trying to check out ifLinux RAM reqs have erupted over the last 3 yrs?y
Considering trying Linux - and I thought a 486 was enough! nNow 2 books tell me that Fedora Core requires 256M or 512M of RAM - help!!!@!

To answer your question, it depends on what you want to do. Fedora requires/advices 256mb ram when installing Gnome or KDE.
It can be done with less, but it will affect speed and smoothness.
I used Fedora 4 once on a laptop with 128mb together with Gnome, but it wasn't flashy. But for my purpose at the time good enough
