Trying to boot from the Knoppix CD
I downloaded Knoppix so I can see what Linux is like before going any further and I can't get it to boot on start-up. I tried continually pressing the Esc, F2, and Del button on separate startups and no luck. I read that updating the BIOS might work (I have a six year old PC) but I'd rather not do that if i don't have to. BTW, I'm not all that computer literate, so if you have any advice, please keep it kinda simple
. Thanks.

You'll need to go into your computer BIOS and set it to boot from the CD drive first, put the CD in the drive, and then reboot your machine. I'm not sure how what keys you'll need to press to get into your BIOS settings.

If I press Del or esc during start-up, it starts up as usual. If I press F2, I get the message, "Reboot and Select proper Boot Media in selected boot device". At that point I tried ejecting the CD and reinserting it. For a split second it sounds like it wants to run, but then...nothing.

From what it sounds like to me, i dont think you have burned the Knoppix CD correctly. Make sure you burn the file as a Disk Image, or an Iso.
There are various programs you can use to burn these files in Windows, just google it, in OS X you can use Disk Utility

I'm sorry for wasting your time, guys, but westwarrior is correct. The website I got the instructions on for trying Knoppix didn't mention that it had to be downloaded a certain way. I used a program called ISO Recorder and it worked fine. Thanks to everyone.
