Help - Partitioning
I am trying to partition my hard drive (something i have no experience with) with the end goal of loading suse 10.2 on it (along with windows xp). I've tried two methods to partition (norton's partitoin magic 8, and Gparted) , neither of these have brought me success. I defragged as well. What should i check out to see if i have an issue? Also, the error i get in partition magic is - " the selected disk contains one or more partitons which cannot be moved"

right click on third partitons, ( next to C: ) and delete it. right click on 'free' space and create Extended Partition. you can do this with GParted too.
select 'Unpartitioned/Free space for install' in Partition section during installation. installer will create and format partitions for you.
Good Luck !It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

So you're referring to the CP/M, current dos, CTOS. and..it's 100% full. What exists in there, and are you sure I can delete it without harm? I trust you, i just want to double check. Is that the reason i'm unable to shrink the NTFS drive to make room for a separte linux partition?
i read somewhere that this partition is involved with window's "System Restore" would deleting it remove the ability to use system restore?

how much disk space you have? how much space are you gong to assign to SuSe?
check the contents of that partition through GParted LiveCD. first partition has Dell's Rescue Tools and second has Windows OS. check third partition. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I have about 70 gigs total, and 23 gigs are free. As for how much to dedicate to Suse, I'm not sure, I guess less than 10 would be reasonable, no? I'm not sure what's in the 3rd partition, I couldn't tell, but I googled it online, and some one mentioned it being the images for window's System restore feature.

your harddisk has 4 Primary Partitions and C: drive is 71GB. 23 GB space is not a separate partitions. Shrink C: drive and create around 10GB free space.
