    How do you mean exactly? I don't really see how directories and desktops are connected at all.

    are you thinking of running a display at :0 and :1 at the same time with different users? its possible:

    I think he is talking about virtual desktops, each being displayed by nautilus/konqueror/(insert other desktop manager here). Short answer:

    If that really is what you're referring to, there is one thing that you've missed, namely that those aren't really different desktops. All these virtual workspaces are really just implemented through the window manager, hiding and showing different windows. I'm not really sure how the desktop window works. I know gmc had a different window for each desktop icon, each being sticky (visible on all workspaces). I don't know how either konqueror or nautilus do it, though. Maybe they're just drawing directly on the root window?
