    ive got Damn Small Linux

    my pc in my room sucks(56mb ram, 40gb hd, no internet, was running a win98 that couldn't run ANY functions because of viruses)

    anywho... i cant get sound from the speakers now that i put dsl on (i wonder if it doesn't have the drivers, do speaker even use drivers?!? lol.) any ideas?

    and on a side note: are there any other linux distros that run on a mere 56mb ram?

    This is most probably related to your sound card drivers.

    Can you provide the output of

    Puppy Linux is an other that could work on such a machine. On that precise matter, you can look at this thread, for some suggestion. Though in your case the choices are very much limited by your machine's specifications. Perhaps you can start thinking about putting some more RAM in there.

    If you try Puppy Linux you'll be able to use the Linux ALSA setup program to get your sound working. I would say if you have a really old machine you have some sort of Legacy ISA sound so you let ALSA probe for ISA.
    I got the sound working on a 1998 Compaq laptop this way.
