Few linux questions on usb/sd possibility

Hey, I'm kinda a new to linux, ran helix in class, I have a new laptop, core 2 duo, x1400, 120 gig hd, etc running xp mce, I was wondering if I can run linux, something like helix or forensics based on my 2 gb SD card(in a usb thumb port) If i cannot run linux on a usb sd card, then How do I go about installing linux on my dell, I dont like the CD's because you cant save, but I also do not want to mess with my windows xp part, as I'll be on XP most of the time

    Hi,

    You can try http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/.

They say you can install it on an USB pen drive.
Or you can burn it to CD, and then you can save your datas & preferences to
your USB drive, so you don't have to touch your windows partitions.

I haven't try to install it to USB, but I tried to burn it to CD, it's really great.
