    Exclamation Noob needs help

Hi, I'm new to Linux and just installed Freespire earlier this week. I can't use my wireless internet connection, sound doesn't work, and I can't access my Windows partition (it appears as a locked folder and its ownership is set to root). I tried finding out how to solve these problems, but to no avail. I was able to enter the partition using a command that starts with ch to change permissions(standing for change, but I forget what the complete name was), and do the same thing on all subfolders, but I can't use any files since I am required to be root. I have no idea how to login as root, but I heard something about using the command su. I used it, but I have no idea what the root password is (I tried no password and my own password). Sound used to work until I accidentally chose diagnostic tools on the GRUB menu. I tried everything I could find in the control center to fix it, but I didn't have any luck. However, out of all these problems the most important one to me is connecting to the internet. I searched for a while (a few days) and I am pretty sure that it is because I don't have a driver for my card (12 on this page http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/j...33/id,list_b/), and NDISwrapper can fix it. But when I try to install it, I can't do anything and I have no idea what I'm doing. Could you please explain how to set this up in a way that a complete beginner to Linux could understand it, preferably if I can learn from the experience? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please use paragraphs, makes my job much eaiser.

Not sure about your sound (You'll need to provide more information) but I can help with the other two.

As root, look in /etc/fstab and see if your Windows partition is listed there, after the options before the 2 numbers try adding ,guid=<user>,uid=<user> where <user> is your exact username.

I wrote a tutorial about ndiswrapper here (http://www.linuxforums.org/network/w...and_linux.html) It's in need of a bit of maintainence but it should give you the general jist of what to do with it. Ndiswrapper is your friend, just don't muck it up.

Edit: I recently installed Ubuntu (it's a lot better than Freespire), and I can access the hard drive and hear sound. I'm testing ndiswrapper now.
    Sorry about that.

When I tried to do anything with sound it said Jack Server not found and something about null sound.

I'll try these things in a few minutes and (hopefully in Linux), tell you the results.

    *bump*

I tried installing ndiswrapper, but I got this problem when I used make (there was more before it, but this was what was shown as the error):

loadndisdriver.c:591: warning: implicit declaration of function 'closelog'
    make[1]: *** [loadndisdriver] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/dylan/Documents/ndiswrapper-1.42/utils'
    make: *** [all] Error 2

I also got this for make install:

    make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/dylan/Documents/ndiswrapper-1.42/driver'
    make: *** [install] Error 2
    dylan@dylan-laptop:~/Documents/ndiswrapper-1.42$

Does anyone know what this means?
