there is an option in BIOS to set 'First Boot Device'. set 'CD Drive' as first boot device.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

different BIOS' uses different key combinations. try Esc, Ctrl + S or Function key. check your MoBo manufacturer's site too.

    F10: But still trouble

My bios takes pressing F10 for that. But windows XP hangs during setup. After this message: Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration.

But on a fresh HDD (Havin linux not installed) i could install XP on my PC with the same CD just fine.

    What's the reason for this?

GRUB is creating problems. you have to remove that first. its easy to re-install GRUB later on.
download Windows 98 Bootable Floppy from www.bootdisk.com. boot up from Floppy and execute this
    Code:
    fdisk /mbr
Windows Installation CD will work on reboot.
