    Voicemail system

I've been looking all over the net for a system with these features:

Linux box hooked up to the POTS with a basic modem card.

2 voice mail boxes (preferably messages can be emailed or at least can be remotely stored)

call forwarding to my cell phone (not needed but really cool)

possibly skype call forwarding to my cell (not necessary but I would like)

Some of the guys at work said asterisk, so I've been reading up on that. Yet it seems I can't use a basic modem card, I have to buy a specific one from a certain company. Or a external box that took the RJ-11 and made converted to a networked RJ-45 device.

I have a 350mhz celeron with 128mb ram, that I'm looking to set this up on, I have some more powerful boxes but I'm trying to save them for more power hungry stuff.

Is there anyway for me to set this stuff up without paying money for new parts? because when I was looking at those network devices for RJ-11s it looked like it was going to cost me more then the computer I plan to run this with.

    Thanks for the help!

I actually used asterisk@home to do this. I don't have the forward to cell. But it can do it. I put 2 of these in

    http://www.digitnetworks.com/X100P_F...rd_p/x100p.htm

for the modems and then I installed asterisk@home it is used for my after hours paging system. When someone calls it answers and and they leave a message, then it shoots me a text message to my cell phone saying there is a message. You can then call in and listen to it. (this is how I started out on it.)

Now I have it acutally email the vmail attachment to my pda phone and I just listen to it that way. It works very nice, then of course it is a voip server so I installed some voip phones at friends houses all over the place that we talk for free on voip to voip, but with both cards it does have the capablity to dial out to a landline but be carful of toll charges, you can make rules to fix that.

it has a lot more capabilities I have just scrated the surface with it and it does what I need.

trixbox is the new one out, I tried it but had a lot of diffacutly setting it up so I went back to the old asterisk at home. It's simple and works great. I was looking to make just an ansering machine that would text me and I got so much more out of this.
