kubantu as a file server for sage help
We have been running sage line 50 for some time on a windows 2000 network, with about 15 XP clients sharing files on the server. As the file sizes have grown access times have grown disproportionately. There is evidence on the forums that suggests that there are compatibility problems with sage and win200 (or possibly all windows servers), when the files are stored on an XP PC access speeds are much better but XP only allows for 10 user shares. We have considered using a network storage device but the manufacturers say they have performance issues above 5-6 users. Our plan is to try using a Linux server to store the files.
Sage is not a client server application and only uses the server to store files, file sharing is achieved by the maintenance of a file containing file names and lock flags. Searching is done by a flat index file for each file.
I have selected a PC with an AMD 3000 processor and 512m of ram for the trial and have installed kubuntu-6.06.1
I would appreciate any advice and suggestions that anyone can offer, especially if anyone has any experience of a similar scenario
