Hi NRJ,
Welcome to the LinuxForums.
if Linux Kernel supports your machine's Chipset, Installer will detect SATA harddisk. All Linux distros support SATA disks but if your Chipset is not supported, it wont detect/support SATA harddisk.
did you try TuroboLinux in your machine? does it throw any error? It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

i only tested it on VMware on IDE. it works there. VMware doesnt support Sata except if u create a real partition on your sata hdd. I need to free up a partition first, which will do when i found out it is ok to install it there. I already have 2 OS on this computer and dont want mess around with it. That's why I want to test it in the virtual world first.

if you install Linux in Free space, nothing will messed up and if anything goes wrong, its easy to fix that. make sure to select Free/unpartitioned space in Partition Section during Installation.
you can use GParted LiveCD to resize/create/delete existing partitions. its one of the best Partition Manager. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

ok i was able to do it with vmware. took a while. I bought another sata hdd to test it. Since i use a physical partitions, why can't WinVista see those partition linux is using?
Anyway, my next step is to test it in multi-boot with 5 OS. (WinXP, WinVista, Win2003, OSX for PC, and Turbolinux).
PS: also in the installation it didnt detect the screen resolution automaticly. To be able to boot i had to set it manually with vmware. How would i do that without vmware?
