RAID 5 (software) + IDE boot drive prevents boot

    Hi,

    My system is as follows:

    -4x 250GB SATA drives attached to a promise (non-raid) controller (raid5 - software)

-1 IDE 200GB boot drive (/) and swap

the 4 SATA drives are from a previous machine and I'm trying to migrate the data over to this new one.

When the 4 SATA drives are attached the system it wont go any further than grub. ie. it stops after "savedefault". I've installed Debian, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE and they all stop at grub. The SATA partitions are not flagged as boot. Here are some pictures of my bios / setup screens to hopefully illustrate better what is going on.

That is to say, when the drives are removed Debian / Ubuntu boots normally.

I've tried the Super Grub CD "auto fix option" "boot direct", those didn't work".

PS. This 4x250 array was working on an older mobo with a seperate 40GB ide drive.
