    Creating a virtual network..

hi again.. well i was thnking whether it is possible to make a virtual networkon a workstation PC using a loopback adapters. i need to try out certain router and gateway config to learna a few things.. my college servers are off limits ( esp networking components) to newbies...

can i do this... using a gateway to masq my IP and a loacl DNS configured to direct the traffic to my own computer through the gateway so that i can have 4 or 5 servers running virtually ( all of them loopback to my terminal). i need to do this cause i have been asked to reseach on a redirecting gateway that switches between a manin and a backup server..and i havve no netowrking harware.. not even a network card..

i hope u can help me out..

there is an option in the kernel config that allows you to set up a dummy ethernet device. I think it is called "dummy.o"
