    Question PAssword Invalid

Hi guys and gals, I'm running Mandrake 10, and allthough i make a lot of $ on Windows, i would like to get it complety out of my life.

I need some help with Mandrake though, from what i can tell its going to be a good OS for what i do, but im stuck on a few problems that are killing me.

    Problem #1
I try and log-in to my MSN chat using Kopete, or GAIM. Now ive double checked my password a million times but for some reason i get password is invalid.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, im having the problem with my evolution email application also. When it tries to authenticate its giving me password invalid, and i know for a fact i have the correct passwords...

    Problem #2
I'm not very good with reading material, so a lot of times it helps greatly to have someone just cut through the crap and answer specific questions for me.

Ive tried to install a few things so far and had some success with them, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to execute them. I installed them using the run command and entered my root username and pw, so the installation completed successfully, but now how to i make it work lol.

Im so poisoned with the Windows way of doing things, example 'program files' folder, file extensions like 'EXE', that im clueless as to what the Mandrake OS uses its extensions for (if anything), and how do you know what an executable file looks like, or anything about how the file structure works in Mandrake 10. I'm pretty fast learner and don't need any hand holding, just some wise words and any clues as to why i cant seem to understand the installation process, and executing files.

****** Oh yea, and the password invalid error im getting with evolution is forcing me to boot back to windows to compose email, so any help there would really also be appreciated..

    Thanks,
    Allen

    Question evolution

Evolution is now telling me there is no route to host. Even tho i have the ports opened up in my firewall.. So now its not even asking me for a password

Do i need to tell evolution what ports to use for pop and smtp ? If so where? It appears as if there is nowhere to specify ports in evolution, am i missing something?

    I'm a mess lol

It should provide defaults used, but if you are using something special. You can set the ports by editing the account (I think it is under edit....)

Installed programs should show up in the menu.

All your installed programs will be in /usr/bin/ They don't have extensions normally, but they can. For a simple understanding of the the directory structue take a look at http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/lin...-overview.html
