Does Amarok have a Gnome desktop download?
I just noticed that the Amarok that I gave up on trying to use is for a KDE desktop which is why I probably was never able to open it.
I have other options for playing cd's but I am just wondering if Amarok is available for a Gnome desktop.
Please excuse my ignorance! Thanks.

Yes you can use it under Gnome, but you must also have KDE installed. I'm using mandriva with both gnome and kde installed and i can run amarok when using gnome.
It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

which Linux Distro do you have?
install Amarok through Package Manager. it will install necessary libs. no need to install whole kde desktop for amarok. It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I have a Suse 10 distro. When I click Amarok it starts for a milisecond and then disappears. I notice that all media players on my machine are different. There are things I like and things I dislike about the ones that I have. However I have not been able to try Amarok because it will not work.
It is just frustrating!!

I assume it's just hiding in your taskbar, check that out...there might be a little Amarok icon there.

in case its not hiding ( verify it with 'ps x | grep amarok' ), execute amarok in Terminal and post error message here.

I go to applications then multimedia then audio player. I click the blue Amarok icon and for a milisecond a flash of blue appears on my screen and then disappears.

Actually try
rather than amarok. When it starts it may well be docked in the system tray rather than opening as an application. The icon is a blue disc with a wolf's head.Code:amarokapp
