Red Hat 6.2 - GunGirl Will it install?

    Greetings,

I have tried out 4 Linux versions:

    DeLi
    Damn Small Linux
    Puppy Linux
    Red Hat 6.2

    on this puter:

    MOB: FIC VA 503+
    CPU: Cyrix 333 MII
HDD: 4 gig Quantum 5400 RPM
    RAM: 128 Meg
    Sound: ES1370
Video: I forget-16 Meg PCI card

Red Hat 6.2 seemed to work better than the others. I don't need this computer for everyday use. I want to use this system to try and learn Linux and see if I can record some guitar stuff with Linux (something I seem to try every couple of years). Now I have enough other computers around so that this one is just a spare.

    My question:
Using Red Hat 6.2, can I install GunGirl?
Gungirl Sequencer: Welcome to Gungirl Sequencer!

    system requirements for GunGirl

This application requires GTK+ version 1.2.x. Other dependencies include:
    wxWidgets 2.4.0 Libsndfile Libsamplerate.

I have more powerful computers around for recording but this is actually the first computer I ever used as a DAW, using Win 95 and then Win 98SE and I was able to record 10 tracks or so with no problems at 16 bit 44100 Hz.

    Thanks for any help.

Just curious because I see threads like this occasionally. Where did you get Red Hat 6.2? According to the version history (as reported by wikipedia) it was released in April 2000:
Red Hat Linux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even within the Red Hat Linux lineage (which has been discontinued and is now superseded by Fedora / RHEL) it is badly outdated.

I mention this because it is generally a waste of brain cycles to try to get things working on a hopelessly obsolete, unsupported distro. Depending on your needs, you should get the latest RHEL, CentOS, or Fedora.

I think you should install a modern distro and not something as outdated as Redhat 6.x. I am sure Debian or Slackware will work fine on your hardware as long as you use a lightweight GUI e.g XFCE, fluxbox and windowmaker.

Thanks to both of you. This is the kind of info that I was looking for. I will look around for a more modern distro with a lighweight GUI. .

It is a commercially made CD which I probably ordered on the Internet 6 or 7 years ago. At that time, downloading a whole CD on dial-up would have taken a couple of days. It was sitting in my OS box so I installed it to get started on things again.
