    My question is this. I have no linux os experience and only very little server exp. will linux OS actually directly help me in learning linux servers?

    Considering I'm pretty well versed in the Linux OS but know very little about Linux servers, I'd say no. That's not to say using Linux as a desktop won't help you at all, but aside from learning how to run command-line utilities, using Linux as a server and using Linux as a desktop are completely separate experiences.

    I'd wait for some perspective from a server-oriented person first though.
