    Nothing can install on MBR...

Hey, I recently installed PC-BSD 1.2 after already having Windows XP and Ubuntu 7.04 on two seperate partitions which worked perfectly by selecting my OS through GRUB.

PC-BSD installed fine and it created its own bootloader in the MBR. Now I can't boot into Ubuntu, it gives ''Linux'' as an option with ''F3'' but that doesn't work. I can only boot into ''DOS'' (Windows) and BSD itself. So I accidently messed BSD up and installed Debian on the same partition. Debian couldn't install GRUB on the MBR because of some failure, so I opted for LILO...that didn't work either. Now LILO is installed and I can boot Debian and Windows but it is still using the BSD bootloader.

I tried chrooting to my original Ubuntu from the Ubuntu Live-CD before I actually installed Debian. That didn't work because it apparently couldn't find "/bin/bash". Now when I run "grub-install /dev/sda" I get the following:
    Code:
    debian:/home/uholtz# grub-install /dev/sda
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly.
    debian:/home/uholtz#
Previously, on Ubuntu it used to say this:
    Code:
/dev/sda: Not found or not a block device.
Is there any way in which I can get a bootloader on to the MBR, which will have Debian, Ubuntu and Windows bootable?

Thanks in advance for any help

try SuperGRUB CD. boot from it and re-install WIndows Boot Loader. select Fix Windows option in SuperGRUB menu. re-install GRUB from SuperGRUB CD or from Debian/Ubuntu after that.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Sorry, I don't understand 100%. Does the SuperGRUB CD have the Windows Bootloader? If so, could I not just use ''fixmbr'' from my XP disk and then try re-installing GRUB? I have thought of going through this procedure but I'm just afraid that IF the Windows bootloader is back up and I'm still not able to install GRUB...then I'll only be able to boot Win.

    Thank you for your help

yes. it has everything. Windows Boot Loader, GRUB and Lilo.

you can try that too but sometimes XP CD doesn't work at all.
