Are there any known dangerous files that find there way into Linux computers?

Since I have become newly aware of the need to keep an eye on my computer's files; I am requesting a listing of any known bad , malicious, or dangerous Linux files that LinuxForum members have become aware of. Thanks!!!

    Your safe...

Linux is relatively safe. it's much less prone to malicious files than windows is. Even if there is a malicious file, it wouldn't do much damage if you're not logged into the root account. I advise you to install a linux virus scanner. That should be enough protection. And a firewall. I never had anything go wrong with my computer

    Rootkits can be a threat.
A Rootkit is a collection of software tools which enables the cracker to hide and secure their position on a system after they have broken into it. A rootkit is a worst-case scenario of a security breach on a sensitive system, as the cracker has essentially made themselves root
So you can try something something like rkhunter. Also take a look at this short security guide

I wouldn't even bother with a virus scanner, unless you are just running the occasional manual scan. A good firewall and a scheduled run of rkhunter should be enough. Actually, I prefer not to install rkhunter but to keep it on removable media. If I was writing a rootkit hunter first thing I would do is overwrite rkhunter
