when I run Kubuntu I can see all the files of winXP(even the files in the password protect user account)

could windows see the files of Kubuntu too? If yes, how can I protect my Linux files from windows?

I take it these are two different os's that one computer can boot into?

If you boot up into windows, there is no way it can normally read and write the linux filesystems. There are filesystem drivers available for windows that will allow the disk to be read, but these are not (in my experience) reliable. They can be used to read the files on the computer, however.

If you're worried about such security, then you can install an encrypting filesystem for your linux sytem, that'll hide things you dont want others to read unless they have the security keys to decrypt with.
