Why I'm wary of making linux my main OS

Lately I've been dabbling a bit into linux. Not too deep mind you since I've grown well accustomed to the windows 95 and later way of doing things. Fixing computer problems is not ALWAYS fun for me when they MUST be fixed so I can only take so much frustration. A lot of times I just want everything to work and to do what I want to do on my computer. So here's a list of things I'm wary about in making linux my primary and only OS:

My Bluetooth Keyboard, Mouse, and MediaPad
WLAN USB or PCI (doesn't sound too hard with newer easy desktop distro's)

World of Warcraft (I bet this is a factor for many out there, hah)
thinkorswim Broker software (haven't given it a lot of thought but still wary. Maybe not that hard being a java app I believe)
    ProfitSource stock analysis software
    The Rosetta Stone language software

Not exactly a huge list and no doubt wine is probably an easy solution for most of it which would then replace all the windows software on my list with installing and using Wine being what I'm wary of. The last thing isn't too huge but I use hotmail thru outlook express and so I'd need to figure out how to access a hotmail account thru thunderbird or evolution or get a new e-mail account to be happy.

That's all I can think of right now. Obviously my only issue is really getting all the stuff to work and the intensive process that probably entails.

All that being said I think I'm going to try to convert my main computer into a dual boot system to see how I like the taste of Mint 3.0 while I attempt to learn about linux on a different system I have Debian Etch setup on.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit. Thoughts?

    Steve

Welcome to LinuxForums.org, and to Linux!

Yeah, Linux might not be the best OS option for you. However, if you are experimental by nature and enjoy learning new things, then learning Linux could turn into a great experience for you.

Take a look through all the links on this webpage for lots of good information on getting started with Linux:

Pay close attention to the "Linux is NOT Windows, Explained" article. It's a long read, but it makes understanding the differences between Windows and Linux much easier.

Above all, have fun with Linux...

Check WineHQ | Website Off-line for status of those apps.
(That site is down this morning, should be back up in
    a day or so.)

World of Warcraft and Rosetta Stone are known to work
on Wine, but are not yet easy.
thinkorswim Desktop Client officially supports Linux, so that's ok.
    ProfitSource, I don't know, that's $4000 and there's no trial.
It'll be hard for us to support until somebody gives us a copy to try.
