Gaim? amsn? Totally New to this Experience...

My friend asked me to install msn onto her computer, but it seems that that is not possible since this is a linux system.. To me, this was an obscure type of computer that you may by chance, here someone mention, but have never seen. I'm glad I've finally been able to take a look around, but I must say that its a little confusing when it comes to installing a messenger of sorts..

I had come across a few forum threads that had contained the info I needed to get this whole thing started up but I lost the links and now it seems I've erased something I shouldnt have off of the Gaim messenger thing-a-ma-bob...

Can anyone help me? I accidentally mistook the Login Server under the Modify Account Advanced settings for being the point to enter in an email address and I foolishly didn't write what was already written there.. Now I don't know how to get it all started, it seems, and I don't know anything about this Amsn I've heard mention of.

    Howdy and welcome!

So you're talking about two separate programs here: Pidgin (formerly called Gaim) and aMSN. The former can connect to many, many networks, while the latter is MSN-specific.

If you can uninstall Pidgin, you can erase the ~/.purple directory, and this will remove all the settings and everything. To do this, open a terminal, and type:
    Code:
    rm -R ~/.purple/
Note that if you for some reason have Gaim installed (this will be an old version), the directory is called ~/.gaim instead.

I've never used aMSN, but presumably it also has a config directory that, if erased, will reset all of your settings.

The MSN server is "messenger.hotmail.com" If i understood you correctly all you need to do is type that in.
