Have you opened the relative ports in the firewall, and forwarded the correct ports on the router?

    Code:
sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 6881 -j ACCEPT
Replace 6881 with the port you have chosen to run your torrents on.

Do you have read/write permissions on ext3 partition? Try to save/delete any file in that Partition.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Try to download torrent in your Home folder. Does it work?
If you have read/write permission on that Partition then changing FileSystem wont help.

It means problem is not because of ext3 partition or permissions.
    Did you try bigtomrodney's suggestion?

    yeah, i tried that also.
Switched to azerus 5 mins ago and it's beginning to download to my ext3 drive.
Kinda funny, thought the other one would handle it also. But I won't cry over this anymore since i've got something that is working

What torrent client was it? I have had trouble in the past with clients that do not support DHT. They generally have trouble either starting up or finding clients.

I was having problems with Deluge Bit Torrent Client, and when I've changed to Azerus it all worked. It's seeding and downloading like never before right now.
