I am trying to get the following usplash theme working right

The theme itself works but there is a giant black box where the text is...there is a help file on their sourceforge website

I was the last one to post and I have a feeling they don't check their website much so maybe someone here can help. I've tried the alpha version and the stable version because it says something about "quiet mode" and "non-quiet mode", is there any way for me to change this from one to the other? Is there a benefit to one over the other? The theme looks pretty sweet and it's the last "touch" on my computer to make it totally personalized. Thanks all
