Linux in Text...
So before I had a virtual desktop problem which I eventually figured out, but as soon as I fixed that, not 10 mins later when I re-booted, Linux was completley text only. There were no graphics for anything, even the Login screen was Text. So my question is, how do I fix that?
Which distro are you using? If I assume you're using KDE as your desktop try logging in and type:
If that works then at least you know you can get to a gui.
I'm using Mandrake. And yep, I'm also using KDE. I'm gonna try that now.
If that doesn't work, try:
startkde didn't work. It tried to run it, bit it ended up aborting it because it said unable to open display. I'm gonna try TomX's idea now.
EDIT: Tried "startx" and the result was a fatal error. It also said that It could not find any screens.
that generally means that something is wrong with your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.. edit it, find the error (should've been listed when X died), and fix it.
