when i try to mount my dvd-rom drive i get n error
mount: wrong fs type bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom, or too many mounted file systems
i typed in
mount /mnt/cdrom/
how do i go about mounting just my dvd-rom drive or just my cd-rw drive
any help would be appreciated

Check that the /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrom1 symlinks point to the correct devices and that your /etc/fstab is correct (most of all that it's using the iso9660 filesystem for the CD ROMs).
I dont have a cdrom1 symlink just a cdrom symlink
There should be one for your DVD and one for your CD-RW. Of course, you don't need symlinks, you can use the real device names instead, but it might be easier with symlinks. Does /dev/cdrom point at your DVD or CD-RW? What's in your /etc/fstab?

What does the /dev/cdrom symlink point at, and where on you IDE busses have you put your DVD and CD-RW? Also, have you enabled SCSI emulation, and, if so, on what drives? (Check /boot/grub/grub.conf and /etc/modules.conf for anything related to ide-scsi)

how do i find out what a symlink points
and when my machine boots in to linux it says
the dvd-rom drive is on hdc
and the cdrw is on hdd
OK, run "ls -l /dev/cdrom". "stat /dev/cdrom" also works, if you want more info.
/dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdc
And it still complains? That's a bit strange. What happens if you do it manually (ie. "mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom")? Not that it should make a difference, but what do you know? What happens more exactly? Does it return this immediately, or does it take some time? Do you get any kernel messages (check /var/log/messages)? And again, is SCSI emulation turned on on that drive?
