partitions/memory problem

Hi ive just started using linux i am running linux mint maya i have a 750gb harddrive i read somewhere to make a partition for linux mint as im dualbooting with windows 7 so i made a 50gb partition then installed linux all fine then when i downloaded a couple of films it said "error disk out of space" when i could of only used 2gb at most. When i look at the drive it say i have 680gb unused please help!! many thanks in advance

show the output of these commands, run in the terminal, so we can see what you've got:

you need to run this one as root, it will show all detected hard drives:

this will show available free space on your currently mounted partitions:

okay, i'm confused by the /cow - is that a new Mint thing, or are you booted into a Live CD?

also, why are your partitions all marked as NTFS if you installed Linux Mint to at least one of them?

i installed linux mint from usb following instructions from someones post but dont actually know if i installed it in one of the partitions

i'd guess no. do you have those instructions - can you post a link to them?

anyway, it doesn't hurt to try a test: can you write to the filesystem mounted at /isodevice.

e.g., in a terminal:

Note: there is probably some smart way to access your partitions properly but we can figure that out once we know what exactly you are running.
