If you set a linux computer up as proxy, you can configure it to do a lot. There are even kernel modules for ftp and irc support.

well, my WinME box is the Proxy/Router/Firewall, and the Internet is shared off it to 2 Win98 boxes and my WinXP box that is also now RH8.0. There was hell enough getting WinME to talk to Win98 and XP, and RH8 is just starting up, so a reconfigure is out of the question.
