Not to detract from the "do it yourself approach" which I am in favour of. Another option you have is www.mydomain.com. A free DNS service. Just change your dns servers where you registered your domain name to reflect www.mydomain.com's and you are away. they also do a free "catchall" mail service redirect aswell. (*****@yourdomain.com can be redirected to another e-mail account)

Does that mean then that the static IP number (address) I bought is basically of no use to me ?
If you wish to do the dns on your own box, you need a static ip for the registar to point towards.
