What would be the best distro for my Mac

I am running on a 2006 MacBook. The specs are really old, like the first intel computer that Apple produced. This this is extremely slow at times, and is horrable at mulit tasking. (Listening to music and web browsing).

I was wondering if there was a distro that I can run in Virtual box, a very light weight distro that I can run, to have better preformance. Note: I don't want to completely install the distro, but run it along with Mac, because I wanna keep mac on here. (Feel like its a piece of computer history).

What would be the best distrubution for my Mac?

I've never tried any Linux on a MacBook (although I installed some hybrid Linux on an iPod once, for kicks), but I know that both Ubuntu and Fedora (two of the most popular Linux distributions) have done some considerable work to get their distros running on various MacBook machines. I have tried Ubuntu and preformance is really bad. Like I said in the post, this is a very old MAcBook, and the specs are very old. I will need a very light weight distro; something like puppy Linux to run on this Mac. I have 1GB RAM, which in a VM, will make it about half that. I believe this is a single core processor running at 2Ghz.
Fedora is also to large to use, & my best guess would be that preformance would be bad too.

Try lubuntu, Xubuntu, AntiX, Crunchbang, or SliTaz. All of those work well on older computers. As to which ones will run well on an old macbook, try and see is the best advice I can give you.

I have Fedora running on a crap machine and it runs just fine, IF I replace bloated memory-hog GNOME with a lightweight desktop/window manager. In my case, I go extreme and use Fluxbox. It is there in the repos, so easy peasy. I also disable/rip out any unused services/daemons and that speeds things up sufficiently for me. Same goes w/Ubuntu.

Still, if you want something that *just works* w/o mucking around, my advice would be to google for a guide on setting up <YOUR_FAVORITE_LIGHTWEIGHT_DISTRO> on a MacBook, and see which distros turn up the most hits.
