anyway, i just used the livecd to edit it, i removed the = from timeout but its still at 4 seconds

Hmmm.. You didn't mount linpus partition earlier. Isn't Linpus booting up properly? You should edit grub.conf file after booting up Linpus only.

mount it from livecd? i did, and linpus is booting normally

this is what i did

after booting from livecd and opening a terminal, i typed

mkdir linpus
sudo mount -t ext3 /dev/hdc1 linpus
sudo nano linpus/boot/grub/grub.conf

did i do it right?
