I am running DSL 2.3 off a live cd and I tried entering the command mentioned in step 9 of How to Remaster DSL (it's a linuxforums.org article posted by Simon, found via a Google search I get the error message:
mkisofs: No such file or directory. Invalid node - ?
Are you sure you typed it in exactly as written? One letter in the wrong case, or left out can change the entire meaning of a long command like that one.
I am presently using DSL 4.4.1. You may want to download the newest version of DSL, to see if the mkisofs command is included in it. Rather than remastering the older version, it may be easier to start with the latest and use a persistant USB key or RW disc to keep the additions and changes you want.
