probably i don't have a solution for your problem but just want to say that linspire has some known issues with serial mouse, while usb,ps/2 works fine
any how try passingas argument before starting installation at boot promtCode:i8042.nomux

i don't know wheter it could be done while using Livecd of Linspire,but it's possible with live cd's of Opensuse,Fedora,Knoppix,Debian and many othersI think this would apply while installing and not while running a live CD of linspirelife is the greatest opportunity that the nature had given you
